Adding a Bathroom

Last year I discovered I would inherit my grandmother’s beautiful house. When I was a child, I made many fond memories in this cozy, rural home. When I learned the home would be mine, I immediately started planning future renovations. The first thing I decided to do was make the half bathroom a full one. At the time, the home only had one full bathroom. Do you and your family members argue over who gets to use the one bathroom in your house? Consider hiring a contractor to build an additional bathroom onto your home. An experienced contractor can help you determine if you need a three, four, or even five piece bathroom. On this blog, I hope you will discover the benefits of hiring a contractor to build an addition onto your home.

Protect Your Asphalt Against Extreme Weather

Asphalt is a popular choice for paving. It's durable, economical and easy to maintain. However, harsh weather conditions can cause damage and increase maintenance costs.

So how does extreme weather affect your asphalt paving and how should you care for it?

Heavy Rain

Rain has little effect on asphalt paving as this is designed to drain water away from high traffic areas. There is also a porous variety that draws water through the surface and into the water table.

Dry Weather

Rain water on dry asphalt mixes with oil and dust to create a thin film on the surface. This film makes driving in wet weather hazardous.

The solution lies in regular maintenance and seal-coating. Seal coating protects your asphalt surface from UV rays and from excessive seepage of water through the surface.

It helps improve the curb appeal of your pavement by making it appear darker than normal, thereby improving the value of your home. It should be applied every few years.

It further prevents cracks from forming and helps cut down on eventual repair costs. Seal coating is actually cheaper than pavement repair and will therefore save you some money. Your pavement contractor will help you with this.

Excessive Heat

Extreme heat will create soft spots on your asphalt pavement. Driving over these spots with heavy vehicles will further damage your pavement. It also causes fading due to penetration by UV rays. The solution is to apply seal coating.

Extreme Cold

Harsh winter weather poses the greatest danger to asphalt. The continuous cycle of freezing and thawing that is typical of winter is behind this phenomenon. It causes the surface to contract, creating cracks. Seal coating will stop cracks and potholes from forming.

If you are yet to install your asphalt pavement, consider the weather. Take preventive measures if your area is prone to extreme cold.

The solution is to use hot-mix asphalt which is a combination of petroleum, sand and stones. Hot-mix asphalt is specially designed for extreme cold weather conditions. It is durable, flexible, easy to maintain and will not crack under pressure.

Dry weather, excessive heat and especially extremely cold weather will adversely affect your asphalt pavement. Measures such as seal coating and the use of hot-mix will give your asphalt pavement a longer life. Contact your asphalt paving contractor for these jobs and avoid the extra cost that will come with a neglected driveway. You can also visit websites like
